Two remaining members of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the Ondo State House of Assembly have officially joined the All Progressives Congress (APC), leaving the ruling party in full control of the 26-member legislature.
The move marks the end of PDP representation in the state assembly.
The defectors, Olajide Oguntodu, representing Akure South 1 Constituency and former House Minority Leader, and Oluwatoyin Daodu, representing Akoko South West 1 Constituency and his deputy, announced their resignations during a plenary session presided over by Speaker Olamide Oladiji in Akure.
In their resignation letters, both lawmakers cited consultations with family, constituents, and party leaders, who advised them to join the ruling party. They also referenced ongoing internal disputes within the PDP as reasons for their decision. “After careful consultations and consideration of our constituents’ interest, we decided to join APC,” the lawmakers stated.
Speaker Oladiji welcomed the defectors, expressing optimism that their inclusion would strengthen the APC’s numerical advantage in the House. He described the defections as a “significant milestone in Ondo State politics” and urged the new APC members to contribute positively to legislative activities.
This latest defection follows a series of PDP lawmakers leaving the party. Earlier this year, Felix Afe and Tope Agbulu also joined the APC, increasing the ruling party’s representation to 24 seats before the recent changes.
With the new defections, the APC now holds all 26 seats in the Ondo State House of Assembly, leaving the PDP without any legislative presence in the state.
