Uromi Killings: Kaduna Police Arrest Dismissed Constabulary Member Over Inciteful Threats Against Southerners

Kaduna Police Arrest Dismissed Constabulary Member Over Inciteful Threats Against Southerners

The Kaduna State Police Command has arrested a dismissed member of the Police Special Constabulary, Hadaina Hussaini, popularly known as Dan-Taki, following inflammatory comments made on social media threatening retaliatory attacks on Southerners living in Northern Nigeria.

This development comes after widespread condemnation of a Facebook comment allegedly posted by Hussaini in reaction to the reported lynching of 16 travellers of Northern origin in Uromi, Edo State. In the post, Hussaini vowed violent retaliation against Southerners residing in the North, stating, “I swear to Almighty God, we must do something for you guys… after one week you shall see the result.”

The Kaduna Police Command, in a swift response, disassociated itself from Hussaini. According to a statement issued by the Command’s spokesperson, DSP Mansir Hassan, Hussaini is neither an officer of the Nigeria Police Force nor currently affiliated with the Kaduna State Police Command.

Hassan clarified that Hussaini was formerly a member of the Police Special Constabulary, a voluntary outfit, but was dismissed two years ago due to issues surrounding his character. The Command further explained that the widely circulated image of Hussaini in a police uniform was taken during his time with the Constabulary and that the uniform in question bore the ‘PSC/KD’ insignia, identifying it as belonging to the Special Constabulary.

“The suspect has been arrested and will be charged to court upon the conclusion of preliminary investigations,” Hassan stated, reaffirming the Police Force’s zero tolerance for incitement, hate speech, or threats to national peace and unity.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Rabi’u Muhammad, has urged the public to remain calm and continue to report any suspicious activities. He reiterated the Nigeria Police Force’s commitment to maintaining peace, law, and order across the country.

This arrest underscores the importance of responsible use of social media, especially in a nation striving for unity amidst diversity.
