A top veterinary doctor and former chairman of the Nigerian Veterinary Medical Association (NVMA) FCT chapter, Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, has been murdered in Abuja. Gunmen stormed his residence in Kubwa, abducting him along with his three children, and later dumped his body by the roadside.
The children, however, remain missing, with their abductors yet to be identified or apprehended.
The attack occurred on Friday night at around 11:45 p.m., with the gunmen overpowering Dr. Ogbu and his family. His wife, who is nursing a baby, was spared, but the children are still in the custody of the kidnappers. “Dr. Ifeanyi Ogbu, the immediate past chairman of the NVMA FCT chapter, who was kidnapped alongside his three children from his home in Kubwa Abuja, was found dead. The three children are yet to be released. May God please intervene,” a friend, Andrew Gabriel Ikechukwu, wrote on Facebook.
Dr. Ogbu’s murder has sparked widespread outrage and condemnation, with many describing him as a dedicated professional and a loving father. “Nigeria just happened to my age-long friend, Ifeanyi… His untimely death is a painful reminder of the insecurity that continues to affect families and communities in Nigeria,” a colleague wrote in a post titled “A Great Loss”.
The veterinary community is in mourning, remembering Dr. Ogbu as a dedicated professional and a valued member of their profession. The Nigerian police have launched investigations into the incident, with the FCT Command deploying tactical units for Dr. Ogbu’s abduction and mobilizing search operations in Kungabokun.
The incident has raised concerns about the safety of citizens, particularly in the nation’s capital. Many are questioning the effectiveness of the security measures in place and calling for improved security protocols to prevent such incidents in the future. President Bola Tinubu has condemned the murder, directing security agencies to expedite investigations and ensure justice.
The search for the missing children continues, with many praying for their safe release. As the community waits for justice, many are left wondering how such a heinous crime could occur. “The three children are yet to be released. May God please intervene,” Ikechukwu prayed.
