Wike Insists PDP Must Return To Due Process, Says No One Will Use Them For Negotiation

The Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, has declared that he and his political allies will not be used as tools for negotiation within the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP), stressing that the party must return to due process and internal discipline if it hopes to regain strength ahead of future elections.

Wike, who made the remarks during a stakeholders meeting in Port Harcourt, said the crisis rocking the PDP was a result of leaders abandoning the party’s constitution and principles. He maintained that he remains a committed member but will not tolerate actions that compromise fairness and unity. He stated that they cannot be used for negotiation by anybody and that what they are asking for is simple, which is for the PDP to return to due process.

He also criticized those he described as power seekers trying to use the party for personal gain rather than for service to Nigerians. According to him, the PDP’s internal issues can only be resolved when transparency and respect for the rules are restored. He added that a strong party cannot be built on deceit and injustice and that every member must be treated equally while leadership reflects honesty and accountability.

The former Rivers State governor emphasized that his stance was not about seeking confrontation but about defending the ideals that once made the PDP a formidable political platform. He urged members to put the interest of the party above personal ambitions and work collectively to rebuild its reputation.

Reacting to his comments, some PDP leaders called for calm, assuring that the party would continue dialogue with aggrieved members. They said reconciliation efforts were ongoing and that all sides would be carried along in the reorganization of the South South zonal leadership.

Wike, however, maintained that peace can only return when the party leadership demonstrates sincerity and ensures that all actions align with the party’s constitution. He concluded that they are ready for peace but not on the basis of lies or manipulation and that the PDP must be guided by truth and due process.
