President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has emphasized the crucial role women play in Nigeria’s development, stating that “no story of Nigeria is complete without women.

“He made this remark at the 9th Edition of the Voice of Women Conference and Awards in Abuja, highlighting women’s sacrifices and resilience in nation-building. Tinubu, represented by Minister of Women Affairs and Social Development, Hon. Imaan Sulaiman-Ibrahim, acknowledged women as leaders, protectors of families, and drivers of innovation.

The President assured that his administration remains committed to creating more opportunities for women under the Renewed Hope Agenda. “Women must not only be seen but also heard, not only counted but also counted upon,” he emphasized. Tinubu urged for genuine participation of women in political, economic, and social spheres, moving beyond tokenism.

Toun Okewale Sonaiya, convener of the conference, urged grassroots women to use their numbers and voting power to support women in politics. “We call on President Tinubu to ensure that his Renewed Hope Agenda translates into concrete commitments for women,” she said. Sonaiya emphasized the need for increased representation of women in decision-making positions, stating that it is not a favor but a necessity for Nigeria’s growth.

Sulaiman-Ibrahim highlighted landmark women’s movements, such as the Aba Women’s Protest of 1929 and the Egba Women’s Revolt of the 1940s. She encouraged women to demand accountability, push for representation, and support one another to break barriers. The Minister noted that Nigerian women have been central to the country’s development from independence to the present.

The conference aimed to promote women’s empowerment and inclusion in Nigeria’s development. Tinubu’s administration has pledged to implement policies that foster inclusion and economic empowerment for women. The Renewed Hope Agenda seeks to create more opportunities for women, ensuring their genuine participation in various spheres of life.

Tinubu’s commitment to women’s empowerment is evident in his administration’s initiatives. The President’s remarks underscore the importance of women’s contributions to Nigeria’s growth and development. As the country moves forward, it is essential to prioritize women’s empowerment and inclusion.
