In a meeting with leaders of the Yoruba socio-political organisation Afenifere, President Bola Tinubu reaffirmed his commitment to Nigeria’s unity and security on Wednesday.

He promised severe consequences for those who challenge the nation’s sovereignty and security, emphasising that his administration had made significant strides in combating banditry and kidnapping through intensified campaigns aided by intelligence gathering.

The president’s declaration follows recent events where Yoruba Nation agitators, adorned in military attire and armed with weapons, attempted to raise the Yoruba Nation flag at the Oyo State Government Secretariat.

These agitators advocate for the secession of the Yoruba people from Nigeria, citing concerns over the protection of Yoruba interests within the federal structure.

President Tinubu asserted his unwavering commitment to Nigeria’s constitutional democracy and reiterated his resolve to keep the country united.

He highlighted ongoing efforts to enhance security, stating that terrorism had been significantly degraded to a level where it no longer posed a threat to Nigeria’s sovereignty. Additionally, he emphasised the administration’s determination to tackle banditry and kidnapping without succumbing to ransom payments, citing successful results achieved through intensified intelligence efforts.

Furthermore, President Tinubu outlined his administration’s economic agenda, emphasising the importance of securing the nation’s finances and empowering citizens economically.

He announced initiatives such as the National Student Loan Programme to support education and the Consumer Credit Scheme to boost purchasing power and reduce unemployment.

In response, Afenifere leaders expressed their support for President Tinubu’s leadership, commending his decisions and ongoing infrastructure projects. They pledged their unwavering support, promising to stand by the president as he works towards improving Nigeria’s welfare and advancing its prosperity.

The meeting concluded with President Tinubu expressing gratitude for the continued support and prayers of the Afenifere leaders, reaffirming his commitment to advancing Nigeria’s interests and unity for the betterment of all citizens.
