The Zamfara State Government has successfully concluded the tenth phase of its Special Modified Medical Outreach Program, which has benefited a total of 3,447 patients since it began in August 2023.
According to a statement by the Spokesperson to the Governor, Sulaiman Bala Idris, the initiative, launched under the administration of Governor Dauda Lawal, offers free medical services to vulnerable residents across all 14 local government areas of the state.
The free treatments were carried out at Yariman Bakura Special Hospital, General Hospital Gusau, Eye Centre Gusau, and Farida Hospital. The program provides surgeries for cataracts, hernias, hydroceles, and vesicovaginal fistula (VVF) repairs, alongside public health education to improve awareness and wellness.
“The modified outreach program was introduced to address common medical conditions and provide care for those who cannot afford such services,” Idris said. “It has also helped in educating citizens on the importance of maintaining good health and hygiene.”
Statistics from the statement showed that, over the ten phases, 1,659 cases of groin swellings and lumps, 1,081 cataract extractions and related treatments, and 118 VVF or rectal fistula repairs were successfully completed.
Through the use of tele-screening technology, the outreach ensured that even patients in remote areas received specialist care from qualified medical professionals. The tenth phase of the program was concluded in October 2025.
