However, Vinícius Júnior, who had converted all seven of his previous penalties for Real, blazed his effort over the bar, keeping the match finely poised.
Despite their struggles, Real Madrid maintained their 100% record against Atletico in penalty shootouts, adding another chapter to their European dominance over their city rivals. The 14-time champions, who triumphed over Atletico in the 2014 and 2016 finals, now set their sights on Arsenal as they continue their quest for a record-extending 16th Champions League title.
