In what could have been another Stalemate at the on going AFCON 2024 in Côte De’Voire,

a late penalty change the look of things as Burkina Faso triumphs to go top of group D thanks to a late penalty.

West African side Burkina Faso had plenty of the possession but couldn’t utilize it to their advantage as Mauritania defense stood their ground, however a late mistake inside the box lead to a VAR review after Issa Kabore was brought down inside the box and eventually earning a penalty in the 93rd minute.

Betrand Traore converted the resulting penalty from the spot leaving Mauritania Goalkeeper Babacar Niasse no chance.

The result means Burkina Faso now currently top group D following the draw played by fellow group participants Algeria and Angola who drew 1-1 last night.

Up next for Burkina Faso is a clash against North African Side Algeria on the 20th of January and they will be hoping to get something out of that game to bolster their hope of qualifications into the next round.

However they must pass the test of the Algerians to make this a reality.

Mauritania on the Other Hand will be up against Angola in what could be an important encounter for both team.
