Governor Lucky Aiyedatiwa of Ondo State has restated his administration’s commitment to improving facilities at the National Youth Service Corps orientation camp and boosting the welfare and safety of corps members deployed to the state.

He gave the assurance during the swearing in ceremony for the 2025 Batch C corps members held at the permanent orientation camp in Ikare Akoko.

The governor confirmed that his administration has approved the construction of a new 216 bed hostel to expand accommodation capacity at the camp. According to him, the new project reflects his commitment to ensuring a more comfortable and supportive environment for new corps members entering the state for national service. He noted that improving infrastructure remains a top priority for his government.

Aiyedatiwa, who was represented by the Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Segun Henry Omoyofunmi, also emphasised that the state government will continue to maintain peace across all communities. He explained that Ondo State has strengthened its partnership with security agencies to ensure corps members remain safe throughout their service period.

The governor advised the incoming corps members to uphold discipline, loyalty and a strong commitment to service. He urged them to take the Skill Acquisition and Entrepreneurship Development programme seriously, stressing that “practical skills provide young people with a stronger foundation for stable and productive futures.” He reaffirmed the state government’s continuous commitment to the monthly stipend for corps members.

In her remarks, the Ondo State NYSC Coordinator, Mrs Kuburat Omowumi Bakare, expressed appreciation to the governor for his sustained support, especially the approval of the new hostel project, which she described as a major boost to the camp’s infrastructure. She appealed to employers and community leaders in the state to provide encouraging and supportive environments for corps members posted to their establishments.

Bakare also commended the security agencies and camp officials for their ongoing role in ensuring the successful conduct of the orientation programme. She stated that with the recent investments in infrastructure and stronger welfare assurances from the government, the 2025 Batch C orientation exercise is positioned for a more secure and productive service year. Dignitaries present at the event included the state Commissioner of Police, CP Adebowale Lawal, the Chief Judge of Ondo State represented by Chief Registrar Ayodeji Akinsaya, and representatives of the Olukare of Ikare, among others.
