Arsenal forward Bukayo Saka has been ruled out of England’s games against Australia and Italy because of injury. Saka missed his side’s 1-0 Premier League win over champions Manchester City on Sunday with a hamstring injury. This year’s Nobel economics prize has been awarded to Claudia Goldin, an American economic historian, for her work on women’s employment and pay. Prof Goldin’s research uncovered key drivers behind the gender pay gap, the Royal Swedish Academy of Sciences said. She is only the third woman to receive the prize, and the first to not share the award with male colleagues. Prof Goldin currently teaches labour market history at Harvard University in the US. Justice Ibironke Harrison of a Lagos High Court has sentenced a police officer, Darambi Vandi, to death by hanging for shooting a Lagos-based lawyer, Mrs Omobolanle Raheem to death last Christmas. Recall that the defendant shot Raheem in the chest on Dec. 25, 2022, at Ajah Roundabout, on Lekki- Expressway, Lagos State. The prosecution team led by the Attorney-General and Commissioner for Justice, Mr Moyosore Onigbanjo, called 11 witnesses, including eight police officers. The other prosecution witnesses include two eyewitnesses and a pathologist.

Lagos State University of Education (LASUED) has integrated the Yoruba Language into its General Nigeria Studies (GNS) curriculum as a means of fostering the language’s preservation and encouraging its use among students. The Vice-Chancellor of the institution, Prof. Bidemi Lafiaji-Okuneye, shared this information in an interview. This comes on the heels of the enactment of a law by the Lagos State Government on August 8, 2018, to safeguard and promote Yoruba Language within its tertiary institutions. Dangote Cement, MTN Nigeria, and Airtel lead the list of most valuable companies in Nigeria as of the end of Q3 2023, jointly accounting for 45% of the total equities market capitalization as the market gained N2.96 trillion in Q3 alone.  In terms of market capitalization, the market’s value increased from N33.4 trillion to N36.3 trillion in the same period.  Notably, the top ten companies accounted for 76% of the entire market with a joint value of N27.67 trillion. After over one week, the Lagos State Government has reopened some of the markets shut down in the state. The State Waste  Management Authority, (LAWMA) announced the reopening of the markets including Ladipo, Oyingbo, Alamutu Ologede and Ile-Epo markets, sealed at different times over alleged violation and non-compliance with environmental laws. The management of Moshood Abiola Polytechnic (MAPOLY), Abeokuta, Ogun State, has announced the suspension of academic activities following the refusal of workers to call off their strike action. DAILY POST recalls that both the academic and non-academic staff of MAPOLY on Thursday embarked on an indefinite strike due to nonpayment of their July, August and September salaries. The US says it is moving an aircraft carrier, ships and jets to the eastern Mediterranean and will also give Israel additional equipment and ammunition.
