The Nigeria Centre for Disease Control and Prevention (NCDC), has registered 1,968 Lassa fever infections across 112 local government areas in 28 states of the federation. The NCDC said this via its official website on Tuesday in its Lassa Fever Situation Report for Week 37 (Sep. 11 -17, 2023). The centre indicated that 75% of the cases were detected in Ondo, Edo, and Bauchi States. The News Agency of Nigeria (NAN), reports that Lassa fever is a viral hemorrhagic fever caused by the Lassa virus. The governorship candidate of the People’s Democratic Party, PDP, in the March 18 governorship election in Ogun State, Mr. Oladipupo Adebutu, yesterday, rejected the judgement of the election petitions tribunal, which affirmed Dapo Abiodun as the duly elected Governor of the state. Adebutu described the verdict as unexpected, disheartening and a threat to Nigeria’s democracy. Real Madrid’s stay in Naples suffered a shock on Monday night after the Italian city suffered an earthquake that affected the Campi Flegrei area, a volcanic caldera 9 kilometers from the city, which even caused several people to take to the streets alerted by a tremor in the ground. Gov. Abdullahi Sule of Nasarawa state says he would appeal the majority judgment of the Governorship Elections Petition Tribunal sitting in Lafia that annulled his declaration as the winner of March 18 election. The governor stated this on Monday in Lafia while reacting the the spilt judgment of the tribunal. Lawyers for Niger’s ousted president says they are filing a legal case in the West African country against those behind the coup that deposed the democratically elected leader. Nigeria’s former Minister of Petroleum, Diezani Alison-Madueke, on Monday appeared before a London court over bribery charges instituted against her by the UK’s National Crime Agency. With bribery charges imposed against Diezani, the UK government is apparently seeking a 10-year jail term for the ex-Nigerian minister. Liverpool are to appeal against the red card given to Curtis Jones during their controversial 2-1 defeat at Tottenham Hotspur on Saturday. The West African Examinations Council has named Dr. Amos Josiah Dangut as the Head of the Nigeria National Office of the institution thereby succeeding Patrick Areghan. Areghan’s tenure ended in September 2023 which made way for Dangut’s appointment, WAEC said in a statement on Monday.
