The Governorship Election Petition Tribunal has dismissed the petition filed against the victory of Governor Ahmed Aliyu of Sokoto State by the candidate of the Peoples Democratic party (PDP), Sa’idu Umar, in the March 18 election. The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) had declared Aliyu, who contested on the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) as winner of the election, but Umar challenged his victory on the grounds of Aliyu’s deputy qualification as well as electoral fraud. Operatives of the Department of State Services (DSS) have barred journalists from covering the judgment of the Sokoto Governorship Election Petition Tribunal. The operatives who said they were working on directives from above only allowed journalists from NTA, NAN and state-owned media journalist into the court room at the High Court, where the ruling is ongoing. Some members of the Christ Apostolic Church (CAC), Oke Igan in Akure, Ondo state capital, have been abducted. The victims were travelling for a burial programme when the attackers struck on the notorious Ifon road in the Ose Local Council Area of the state, on Friday evening. The organised Labour has shunned a meeting scheduled by the federal government as part of the efforts to prevent a nationwide strike by workers. The Nigerian Immigration Service (NIS) has urged Nigerians who applied for International Passports and are yet to collect to visit the passports offices for collection as backlog has been cleared.
