Barrister Ismael Ahmed Appointed Chairman Of Nigeria’s Presidential CNG Initiative.

President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has appointed Barrister Ismael Ahmed as the Executive Chairman of the Presidential Compressed Natural Gas Initiative (PCNGi). The announcement, made on Friday, underscores the administration’s commitment to mitigating the impact of fuel subsidy removal through sustainable and affordable energy solutions.

Ahmed, a 45-year-old legal expert and seasoned public servant, will oversee the operations of the PCNGi, a cornerstone of President Tinubu’s palliative intervention programme. The initiative aims to provide Nigerians with cheaper, cleaner, and more accessible energy alternatives, particularly through the promotion of compressed natural gas (CNG) as a viable fuel option.

A distinguished alumnus of the University of Abuja, Ahmed earned his Bachelor of Laws degree in 2005 and was called to the Nigerian Bar in 2006 after completing his training at the Nigerian Law School, Abuja. Furthering his education, he obtained a master’s degree in international relations, communications, and diplomacy from Webster University in St. Louis, Missouri, in 2008.

Ahmed brings a wealth of experience to his new role, having served as Senior Special Assistant to former President Muhammadu Buhari on the National Social Investment Programme from 2018 to 2022. His tenure was marked by efforts to expand social welfare initiatives, demonstrating his capability to manage large-scale, impactful programmes.

Bayo Onanuga, Special Adviser to the President on Information and Strategy, highlighted Ahmed’s appointment as a strategic step towards achieving the administration’s energy and economic goals. “Barrister Ahmed’s expertise and proven track record make him the ideal candidate to drive the PCNGi’s mission of delivering affordable and sustainable energy to Nigerians,” Onanuga stated.

The PCNGi is expected to play a pivotal role in reducing the financial burden on citizens following the removal of fuel subsidies, offering a cleaner alternative that aligns with global environmental standards. Ahmed’s leadership will be instrumental in coordinating efforts to expand CNG infrastructure and ensure its accessibility across the country.

As Nigeria navigates its energy transition, Ahmed’s appointment signals a renewed focus on innovative solutions to address economic and environmental challenges, fostering optimism for a more sustainable future.
