Brazil Advances To 7th Quarterfinal After Defeating Cameroon 3-1 At Women’s U-20 World Cup.

The Samba Girls of Brazil secured a thrilling 3-1 victory over Cameroon in extra time on Thursday, advancing to their seventh quarterfinal at the U-20 Women’s World Cup in Bogota, Colombia. Brazil’s captain, Dudinha, played a crucial role, scoring twice in extra time to send her team through to the next round.

Despite Cameroon’s passionate performance and strong crowd support, Brazil came out on top. Dudinha netted her first goal in the opening minute of extra time and sealed the win in the 123rd minute with a clinical finish, outsmarting Cameroon’s goalkeeper during a fast break.

The Cameroonian debutants had several opportunities, dominating with 19 shots compared to Brazil’s 10 and earning 10 corners. However, they struggled to convert these chances. Naomi Eto opened the scoring for Cameroon in the 22nd minute, bringing her tally to four goals in the tournament. Brazil equalised in the 35th minute through a penalty scored by Paris Olympics Silver medalist Priscila.

Despite Cameroon’s aggressive play, including a near miss by Eto in the 112th minute, Brazil’s defence held firm. The match saw some time-wasting tactics from the Brazilians, but they managed to weather the storm and secure their place in the quarterfinals.

Brazil has had a dominant run in the tournament, scoring 14 goals without conceding in their group stage matches. Cameroon, who made their tournament debut, scored four goals and conceded three, advancing as a lucky loser from the group stages.

In other matches, defending champions Spain came from behind to beat Canada 2-1, advancing to the quarterfinals. Silvia Lloris scored the winner in the 81st minute, after Jone Amezaga had equalised just two minutes after Canada’s Florianne Jourde opened the scoring in the 63rd minute.

Brazil will face the winner of the North Korea and Austria match in their quarterfinal clash on 15th September, while Spain awaits the result of the Nigeria vs Japan match for their next opponent.
