Salma Paralluelo managed a late consolation goal for Spain, but it was too little too late.
With this victory, Brazil are assured of at least matching their previous best performance in the competition, having won silver medals in both 2004 and 2008, each time losing to the United States.
Spain will now compete for the bronze medal against Germany in Lyon on Friday at 14:00.
