4 Dead, 15 Rescued As Building Collapse In Lagos.

Emergency responders in Lagos have successfully rescued 15 people from the rubble of a collapsed three-storey building at Oriwu Estate, Lekki. The swift response by the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) and other rescue teams played a crucial role in saving lives following the tragic incident on Wednesday evening.

According to reports, over 30 construction workers were on-site when the building gave way, with initial investigations suggesting that prior warnings from authorities had been ignored. Despite the severity of the collapse, the efforts of emergency personnel ensured that 14 individuals were pulled out alive on the same day, while an additional person was rescued yesterday morning.

Teams from the Lagos State Emergency Management Agency (LASEMA), the Lagos State Fire and Rescue Service (LSFRS), and the Nigeria Police Force worked tirelessly alongside NEMA to carry out the rescue operations. The injured survivors have since been taken to Marina General Hospital for medical care.

While the cause of the collapse is yet to be determined, officials have indicated that the building had previously been marked by the Lagos State Building Control Agency (LASBCA), which had instructed workers to vacate the premises. The site engineer, who is currently hospitalised, is expected to provide further details regarding the number of people present when the structure fell.

The incident highlights the importance of strict adherence to building regulations and safety measures to prevent future tragedies. Authorities have vowed to conduct a thorough investigation to ensure that those responsible for any negligence are held accountable.
