CAF Appoints Chadian Referee for Nigeria vs. South Africa World Cup Qualifiers

In a move aimed at ensuring fair play and professionalism, the Confederation of African Football (CAF) has appointed Chadian referee Alhadi Allaou Mahamat to officiate the highly anticipated World Cup qualifying match between Nigeria’s Super Eagles and South Africa’s Bafana Bafana.

Alhadi Allaou Mahamat, a seasoned international referee with 12 years of experience, will take charge of the match scheduled to take place at the prestigious Godswill Akpabio Stadium in Uyo next month. His appointment underscores CAF’s commitment to promoting excellence in officiating across the continent.

Mahamat has a rich history of officiating top-level matches, having previously handled games in the CAF Champions League and CAF Confederation Cup competitions. His expertise was also on display at the recent 34th Africa Cup of Nations held in Cote d’Ivoire earlier this year.

Joining Mahamat on the officiating team are esteemed officials from Sudan, Sao Tome & Principe, and Chad. Mohammed Ibrahim Abdallah from Sudan will serve as assistant referee 1, Abelmiro Dos Reis Monte Negro from Sao Tome & Principe as assistant referee 2, and Pousri Armi Alfred as the fourth official.

Ahmed Sayed Abou Elela from Egypt will assume the role of referee assessor, ensuring that the match is conducted according to the highest standards of fairness and sportsmanship. Meanwhile, Ghanaian Munkaila Nassam Adam will serve as the commissioner for the Day 3 clash, overseeing the logistical aspects of the game.

In a separate announcement, CAF has designated Ethiopian official Bamlak Tessema Weyesa as the referee for the Day 4 encounter between Nigeria and the Cheetahs of Benin Republic. This match, set to take place at the Stade Felix Houphouet-Boigny in Abidjan, will see Weyesa collaborating with fellow Ethiopian officials and a team of experienced assessors and commissioners.

The appointments of Mahamat and Weyesa underscore CAF’s commitment to upholding the highest standards of refereeing in African football. These highly anticipated matches are not only crucial in determining World Cup qualifiers but also showcase the talent and dedication of African football officials on the international stage.

In another development, the WAFU B U-17 Championship will feature Ghanaian and Nigerien officials in the opening match between Nigeria and Burkina Faso. This championship serves as a qualifying competition for the Africa U-17 Cup of Nations, highlighting the significance of these matches in shaping the future of African football talent.
