Chief Judge Reassigns Nnamdi Kanu’s Case To New Judge.
The Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, Justice John Tsoho, has reassigned the case of Nnamdi Kanu, leader of the Indigenous People of Biafra (IPOB), to a new judge.
This decision comes six months after the previous judge recused herself from the treasonable felony case against Kanu.
Kanu’s legal counsel, Aloy Ejimakor, confirmed the development, stating that the legal team received two significant official letters ahead of their routine visit to Kanu.
“The first letter, from the Chief Justice of Nigeria (CJN), was in response to our formal request for administrative intervention in reassigning the case. The second, from the Chief Judge of the Federal High Court, conveyed the official notice of reassignment,” Ejimakor revealed.
Kanu, through his legal team, expressed gratitude to the CJN for her swift response and appreciation to the public for their unwavering support in demanding a fair judicial process.
Ejimakor noted that the delay in reassigning the case, which had persisted since September 2024, posed a serious threat to Kanu’s constitutional right to a fair and speedy trial.
“With these latest developments, Mazi Nnamdi Kanu and his legal team will now focus on preparing his defence,” he added.
Kanu, who has been in detention since June 2021, maintains his innocence and continues to call for due process in his trial. The reassignment of the case is expected to pave the way for fresh legal proceedings.
