Eddie Howe Reaffirms Commitment to Newcastle Amid England Manager Speculations.

Newcastle United’s manager, Eddie Howe, has reassured fans of his dedication to the club despite being linked to the vacant England manager position following Gareth Southgate’s resignation. Southgate stepped down after England’s narrow 2-1 defeat to Spain in the Euro 2024 final, opening the door for speculation around his successor.

Howe, who has been instrumental in Newcastle’s recent successes, stated his commitment to the Magpies during an interview with BBC Radio Newcastle from their training camp in Germany. “It is an unbelievable football club. I’m very, very proud to be the manager,” Howe said. “I love the supporters, I love the players, I love the staff. So really, there has been no thought in my mind on anything else and I have been very committed to the job here.”

He further emphasised his contentment and support at Newcastle, indicating his intention to stay as long as these conditions remain. “For me, as long as I am happy and feel supported and feel free to do the work that I love to do at Newcastle, I’ll be very happy – and I am very happy,” Howe added.

Howe was appointed as Newcastle manager in November 2021 shortly after the Saudi Arabian-backed takeover of the club. He successfully navigated the team away from relegation that season and subsequently led them to a fourth-place finish in the Premier League during the 2022-23 campaign, securing a spot in the Champions League.

Despite being a prime candidate for the England job, Howe signed a “multi-year” contract extension last summer, further solidifying his commitment to Newcastle. Their first game of the 2024-25 season is set for 17 August against Southampton at home.

Addressing the speculations about the England job, Howe remained focused on his current role. “Of course that is my expectation because I am the manager of Newcastle and I am very proud to be,” he said. “But as I said, it is all about the environment I am working in. As long as that is one where I feel I can give my best, then absolutely, we will crack on and I am looking forward to next season.”

Newcastle chief executive Darren Eales has also expressed the club’s determination to retain Howe, highlighting his importance to their long-term plans. Howe, in turn, expressed his ambition to bring silverware to Newcastle and deliver joy to the supporters.

Squad Changes and Preparations

In other news, Newcastle had to make some tough decisions to comply with the Premier League’s profit and sustainability rules. They sold midfielder Elliot Anderson to Nottingham Forest and winger Yankuba Minteh to Brighton, generating a combined £65 million. Howe expressed his disappointment at losing the young talents but acknowledged the necessity of the sales.

Meanwhile, Newcastle signed goalkeeper Odysseas Vlachodimos from Forest. Howe is optimistic about integrating the new players and building a strong squad for the upcoming season.

Sandro Tonali’s Imminent Return

Midfielder Sandro Tonali, who has been serving a 10-month ban for breaching betting rules, is close to returning to action. Howe noted Tonali’s improved fitness and readiness, indicating his significant role in the team once he is available from the end of next month.

As Newcastle prepare for the new season, Howe’s commitment and strategic decisions continue to shape the club’s promising future, much to the delight of their supporters.
