Edo PDP Rejects Tribunal Verdict, Vows To Challenge Ruling.
The Edo State chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has strongly rejected the ruling of the Edo State Governorship Election Petition Tribunal, which upheld the election of Governor Monday Okpebholo of the All Progressives Congress (APC).
In a statement issued on Thursday, the PDP insisted that its candidate, Asuerinme Ighodalo, was the rightful winner of the 21st September governorship election and vowed to pursue all legal avenues to challenge the tribunal’s decision.
Edo State PDP Caretaker Committee Chairman, Tony Aziegbemi, reaffirmed the party’s commitment to the democratic process, stating, “Although we hold the judiciary in the highest esteem and respect the judgment, we completely disagree with the decision of the tribunal.”
Aziegbemi asserted that the PDP had presented sufficient evidence to prove that Ighodalo was duly elected by the majority of voters. He urged party members to remain resolute despite the setback, adding, “We call on all our members to quickly rise up from the ashes of this temporary setback as we take our matter to the appellate courts.”
The PDP assured its supporters that it would continue to fight for what it described as the will of the people, pledging to uphold the principles of democracy and the rule of law.
