Farm Worker Remanded For Alleged Murder Of Employer’s Husband In Ondo.
An Ondo State Magistrate Court sitting in Akure has ordered the remand of John Odah, a farm worker, in prison for allegedly killing his employer’s husband with a machete. The incident occurred on April 18, 2025, at Agbajo farm in Ilu-Abo, Akure North Local Government Area of the state.
According to the prosecution, Odah had offered the deceased Indian hemp, which was rejected, leading to a fierce argument and confrontation. In the ensuing altercation, Odah allegedly used the machete to strike the deceased, inflicting fatal wounds on his forehead and back.
The defendant was arrested and faces a one-count charge of murder. During the arraignment, the prosecutor, Inspector Nelson Akintimehin, told the court that Odah’s actions contravened Sections 319(1) and 320(1) of the Criminal Code Laws of Ondo State, 2006.
The magistrate, O. Omotosho, granted the prosecutor’s request to remand the defendant in a correctional facility pending advice from the office of the Directorate of Public Prosecution. The case has been adjourned till May 30, 2025, for mention.
The court will continue to examine the evidence and determine the defendant’s fate in the coming weeks. Odah’s plea was not taken by the magistrate court, as the case progresses, the defendant’s guilt or innocence will be determined.
