The federal government has filed terrorism charges against four individuals associated with Siminalaye Fubara, a political figure in Rivers State.
The accused – Chima Eguma Ezebalike, Prince Lukman Oladele, Kenneth Goodluck Kpasa, Osiga Donald, and Ochueja Thankgod – are alleged to have orchestrated the invasion, vandalism, and arson of the Rivers State House of Assembly during a period of political unrest in Port Harcourt last year.
The accused individuals, currently in the custody of the anti-terrorism department at the Force Headquarters in Abuja, are scheduled to be arraigned today at the Federal High Court in Abuja.
The charges, marked FHC/ABJ/CR/25/2024, encompass accusations not only of burning down the State House of Assembly but also implicate the individuals in the killing of a Superintendent of Police and five police informants in Ahoada community.
The charges specify that the accused, in collaboration with others, conspired to commit acts of terrorism by willfully destroying public properties.
They are alleged to have invaded, attacked, destroyed, and set fire to the Rivers State House of Assembly. Additionally, the charges point to the alleged use of various cult groups, including Supreme Viking Confraternity, Degbam, Iceland, and Greenland, to instigate chaos in the state.
To handle the legal proceedings, a Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN) and Deputy Commissioner of Police, Simon Lough, has been appointed to lead the prosecution team. The arraignment is set before Justice Bolaji Olajuwon of the Federal High Court in Abuja.
