Minister of Power, Chief Adebayo Adelabu, has reaffirmed the Federal Government’s commitment to transforming Nigeria’s power sector. Speaking at the 9th edition of the Nigeria Energy Forum (NEF 2024) in Lagos, the minister highlighted significant progress in increasing the country’s installed generation capacity.

“Over the years, we have increased our installed generation capacity by bringing new power plants online and rehabilitating existing ones,” said Dr. Sunday Owolabi, who represented Minister Adelabu at the conference. “This has resulted in a substantial increase in the overall power supply to the national grid.”

The conference, themed “Energising Sustainable Industrialisation,” brought together key stakeholders in the energy sector. Minister Adelabu called for collaborative efforts from government agencies, private sector partners, international organizations, and Nigerian citizens to support the ongoing initiatives.

Representatives from various organisations also shared their contributions to Nigeria’s energy landscape:

– Peter Olowononi of Afrexim Bank stated that the institution is a major financial supporter of energy and industrialization projects in Nigeria.

– Caroline Eboumbou, CEO of All On, emphasized their focus on accelerating energy access in Nigeria, particularly in the Niger Delta region.

– Norway’s Ambassador to Nigeria, Svein Baera, detailed Norwegian support for solar and battery energy deployment in Nigerian businesses and programs aimed at mitigating gas flaring in oil and gas installations.

The government’s renewed focus on the power sector comes as Nigeria continues to grapple with electricity supply challenges, seeking sustainable solutions to meet the country’s growing energy demands.
