Dr. Marcus Ogunbiyi, the Permanent Secretary of the FMHUD in Abuja, plans have been revealed to allocate 8,925 residences across the country through the national housing programme.

According to Ogunbiyi, this allocation signifies the conclusion of a thorough assessment adhering to the prerequisites and protocols outlined in a circular distributed in December 2023, governing housing sales under the National Housing Programme.

The allocation encompasses various housing schemes, including outright payment, mortgage, rent-to-own, and installment payment, catering to the diverse needs of applicants.

A total of 8,925 applications were submitted, with distribution by payment method as follows: outright payment – 1,294, mortgage – 2,408, rent-to-own – 2,184, and installment payment – 3,039.

Applicants enrolled in the mortgage, rent-to-own, and installment payment schemes, required to be subscribers to the National Housing Fund, are currently undergoing profiling.

Successful applicants for outright payment will receive offers for new provisional allocations from Federal Controllers of Housing and Urban Development in states, with the Chairman/CEO of Nigerians in Diaspora Commission (NIDCOM) initiating contact with subscribers starting Thursday, 18th April 2024, for further coordination.

Ogunbiyi clarified that completed houses are not yet available in Abia, Lagos, Bayelsa, Rivers states, and the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), stating that allocation of units in these regions will be conducted upon the completion of housing projects later in the year.

The Ministry is currently refining the conditions and procedures for sales of houses under the National Housing Programme, part of which includes the completion of an Expression of Interest form.

Interested subscribers who received a provisional offer of allocation between 10th March 2022 and 18th October 2023 are encouraged to re-apply by completing the Expression of Interest form.

All interested subscribers can obtain their Expression of Interest forms from the office of the Federal Controllers of Housing and Urban Development in the 36 states of the Federation and the Federal Capital Territory at no cost. Nigerians in the diaspora interested in subscribing to the Houses can obtain their Expression of Interest Forms from the office of the Chairman/CEO, Nigerians in Diaspora Commission.
