FG Inaugurated A 15-man Inter-ministerial Committee To organize This year’s Independence Day

The Federal Government has launched the committee for this year’s Independence Day, The Government has inaugurated a 15-man Inter-ministerial Committee to organise the celebration

George Akume, the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, has officially inaugurated a committee responsible for organising and executing activities in celebration of Nigeria’s 63rd Independence anniversary on October 1, 2023. 

Akume, who serves as the committee’s chairman, outlined the proposed activities for the celebration, noting that their finalisation would be subject to the Inter-Ministerial Committee’s approval.

One of the highlights of the celebration will be a presidential broadcast by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on October 1. 





The committee comprises several key government officials, including the Minister of Information and Culture, Minister of Interior, Minister of Finance and Coordinating Minister of the Economy, Minister of Foreign Affairs, Minister of the FCT, National Security Adviser, Inspector-General of Police, Director-General of the Department of State Services, and Commander of the Guards Brigade. Additionally, several Permanent Secretaries are members of the committee.

During the inauguration, the SGF emphasised the importance of reflecting on the contributions and sacrifices of Nigeria’s national heroes and heroines who fought for independence from colonial rule.

 He also highlighted that the celebration offers an opportunity for the government to showcase its achievements in addressing various challenges in the nation’s social and economic sectors.

Akume urged the committee to work diligently, emphasising the importance of timely preparations for the 63rd Independence anniversary celebration.

 

He said: “The proposed activities for the celebration would be subject to finalization by the Inter-Ministerial Committee and would involve the following to be anchored by sub-committees:

“World Press Briefing 25th September: Church Service 1st October; Juma’at Service 29th September; Symposium/Public Lecture 28th September; Presidential Broadcast 1st October Parade 2nd October, 2023,” he said.
