Government Urges Nigerian Women To Tap Into Capital Market For Wealth Creation.

As the world marks International Women’s Day, the Federal Government has encouraged Nigerian women to seize investment prospects in the capital market, highlighting its potential as a crucial avenue for financial growth and stability.

The Minister of State for Finance, Dr Doris Uzoka-Anite, made this appeal in Abuja yesterday during the official unveiling of the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) Podcast.

She underscored the significance of women’s involvement in the capital market, stating, “Expanding opportunities for women in this sector will pave the way for wealth generation. We must introduce more policies, reforms, and frameworks that promote female participation in the financial landscape.”

Dr Uzoka-Anite also acknowledged the unique challenges women encounter in balancing careers and family responsibilities. She emphasised, “Women are naturally skilled at managing finances. We understand how to allocate resources within the household, ensuring they benefit the entire family. If women gain the knowledge to grow their wealth and save in a way that sustains value while meeting their personal and family needs, they would greatly appreciate the impact.”

The Minister highlighted the necessity of a comprehensive strategy to support women in the capital market, advocating for both individual empowerment and institutional backing.

“Supporting women in this space requires a multi-dimensional approach. Individuals must amplify their voices, while institutions should provide equal opportunities, evaluating women based on their skills and capabilities,” she remarked.

Dr Uzoka-Anite commended the SEC for initiating the podcast, describing it as a timely and innovative platform. She expressed confidence that it would successfully encourage more women to explore the capital market.

Earlier, the Director General of the SEC, Dr Emomotimi Agama, explained that the podcast aims to spread awareness about the capital market across Nigeria, enabling more people to understand its benefits and participate effectively.

“Our goal is to ensure that even those in the most remote areas are informed about the capital market and how they can utilise it to build wealth,” he stated.

Dr Uzoka-Anite’s advocacy represents a pivotal step in Nigeria’s pursuit of financial inclusion and women’s economic empowerment. By embracing the capital market, Nigerian women can unlock new pathways to prosperity, contributing to economic expansion and national development.

As the nation works towards its $1 trillion economic milestone, the active engagement of women in the capital market will be instrumental in fostering long-term growth and transformation.
