ICPC Reaffirms Ex-Naval Chief And Brigadier-General Remain Wanted.
The Independent Corrupt Practices and Other Related Offences Commission (ICPC) has reaffirmed that former Naval Chief, Vice Admiral Jibrin Usman (Rtd.), and Brigadier-General Ishaya Bauka remain on its wanted list over allegations of involvement in a N3 billion fraud.
Dismissing reports suggesting that amended charges had exonerated the two ex-military officers, the Commission labelled such claims as misleading and baseless. In a statement signed by Demola Bakare, Director of Public Enlightenment and Education, the ICPC clarified that the charges against them had only been amended, not withdrawn.
“For the avoidance of doubt, the charges against them were only amended, not withdrawn,” the statement read. The Commission also emphasised that it does not clear individuals of cases already in court and that amending charges is a standard procedure while awaiting the arrest of suspects at large or under court-issued bench warrants.
The statement further noted that the ex-Naval Chief was initially charged alongside five others in an original case filed on 17 April 2023. Despite being served through their legal representatives, the accused failed to present themselves before the court for arraignment. Consequently, a bench warrant for their arrest was obtained.
Efforts to apprehend them remain ongoing, with the ICPC calling on the public to assist in ensuring justice is served. The Commission reassured that once the fugitives are arrested, the charges will be amended to include the initial allegations against them.
This development follows the recent arrest of Adam Imam Yusuf, the second defendant in the original case, who was apprehended in Gwagwalada Area Council, Abuja, on 4 February 2025.
