The Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) has called on the owners of 635,011 uncollected Permanent Voter Cards (PVCs) in Edo and Ondo states to retrieve their cards.
As of the latest statistics, 373,030 PVCs remain uncollected in Edo State, while 261,981 are unclaimed in Ondo State.
The Continuous Voter Registration (CVR) exercise, which commenced today, May 27, will run until June 5, operating daily from 9 am to 3 pm, including weekends.
This aims to accommodate voters ahead of the elections scheduled for September 21, 2024, in Edo State and November 16, 2024, in Ondo State.
To enhance accessibility, INEC has established 397 walk-in registration centres, along with facilities at ward levels and state headquarters. This strategy is designed to streamline the process and encourage widespread voter participation.
INEC Chairman Mahmood Yakubu, at a recent stakeholders meeting, emphasized the availability of provisions for registered voters to transfer their registration from other states to Edo and Ondo, or relocate their voting credentials within the states.
Rotimi Oyekanmi, Chief Press Secretary to the INEC Chairman, expressed confidence in the smooth conduct of the CVR. He urged all eligible persons to take advantage of this registration window, stating, “We want to encourage all eligible persons to take advantage of this CVR window to do the needful and exercise their right to vote. On our part, we will make the process as seamless as possible.”
