Kano State Government Appeals To President Tinubu To Relocate Deposed Emir

The Kano State Government has called on President Bola Tinubu to relocate the deposed 15th Emir of Kano, Aminu Ado Bayero, citing concerns over the region’s peace and stability.

In a press conference on Monday, Deputy Governor Aminu Abdussalam expressed the state government’s apprehensions, stating that Bayero’s presence in Kano poses a significant threat to public order. Abdussalam also detailed the reasons behind the government’s decision to reinstate the 16th Emir, Sanusi, and accompany him to the throne.

Addressing the chieftaincy crisis, Abdussalam emphasized that the government had not received any court orders instructing them to maintain the status quo. “Out of eight respondents, only the Inspector General of Police was served with the court order, while the Kano State Government and other relevant parties were not,” he explained.

The Deputy Governor apologized on behalf of the state government to the Office of the National Security Adviser, Nuhu Ribadu, refuting allegations that the NSA provided an aircraft to transport Bayero to Kano. Abdussalam accused certain members of the All Progressives Congress (APC) of orchestrating protests against the emirate’s dissolution and Sanusi’s reinstatement.

“We are concerned about the directives from above to enforce the court order, despite the fact that the majority of respondents were not served,” Abdussalam remarked. He suggested that influential individuals were manipulating the situation to incite unrest.

Abdussalam reported that, following the initiation of the repeal law, Kano experienced a period of peace and jubilation, which was disrupted by politically motivated protests. He pointed out that stakeholders from former emirates, including Gaya, Rano, and Bichi, have expressed their acceptance of the changes and urged their people to comply with the law.

Highlighting a recent protest in Gaya, which he attributed to APC thugs, Abdussalam warned of the political undertones driving the unrest. He called on President Tinubu and national security agencies to investigate the situation and take prompt action to remove Bayero from Kano to prevent further destabilization.

“The deposed Emir’s continued residence in Kano is now a security threat,” Abdussalam asserted, urging immediate intervention to maintain order in the state.
