Katsina State Governor Alleges Collusion Between Officials And Bandits Amid Fresh Attacks

In the face of recent bandit attacks in Katsina and Benue States, Governor Dikko Radda of Katsina State has raised alarm over what he claims to be collaboration between certain government officials, security personnel, and gunmen, effectively turning banditry into a lucrative enterprise.

Governor Radda, speaking on Channels Television’s Politics Today, attributed the persistent insecurity partly to widespread poverty in the country. He made these assertions following a fresh attack by bandits in Unguwar Sarkin Noma community, where at least 24 residents lost their lives while resisting the invasion.

Meanwhile, in Ogbaulu community, Agatu Local Government Area of Benue State, three farmers were killed in another attack by bandits.

Governor Radda expressed skepticism towards negotiating with bandits, citing the complexity of the situation with multiple factions and leaders within the criminal groups. He emphasized that negotiations must not be perceived as a sign of weakness on the part of the government.

Moreover, Governor Nasir Idris of Kebbi State vowed to take decisive action against informants aiding bandits in his state. During his visit to Tudun Bichi in Danko-Wasagu Local Government Area, he warned that anyone found providing information to bandits would face the death penalty.

The governor assured continued support for security agencies, prioritizing logistics, troop welfare, and other necessities for effective combat readiness.

Residents affected by the attacks expressed their grievances, with the Village Head of Tudun Bichi highlighting the dire need for enhanced security measures to facilitate the resumption of farming activities.

In related news, Prof. Abiodun Adebayo, Vice-Chancellor of Covenant University, emphasized the urgent need for the Federal Government to address insecurity to ensure food sufficiency. He highlighted how insecurity has disrupted food production and distribution, contributing to the nation’s high inflation rate.

Adebayo urged collaborative efforts among stakeholders to find lasting solutions to the security challenges plaguing the nation.
