Barcelona’s Appeal To Register Dani Olmo Rejected Again Over Financial Constraints.
Barcelona have suffered a significant setback after a second court rejected their appeal to register Spain forward Dani Olmo for the remainder of the season.
The 26-year-old, who was signed from RB Leipzig for a reported £51m in August, was initially registered only for the first half of the season due to La Liga’s wage cap restrictions. With the registration deadline looming, Barcelona’s failure to overturn the decision may prevent Olmo from playing for the club from 1 January.
According to La Liga, the court rejected Olmo’s precautionary registration as “none of the conditions necessary for the adoption of the precautionary measure were met”. The Spanish league defended its budgeting rules, stating that they had never been questioned by any club, including Barcelona.
Barcelona now face a race against time to find an alternative solution to register Olmo or risk losing him as a free agent. Premier League clubs are reportedly interested in signing the Spanish international, who has scored six goals in 15 appearances for Barcelona this season.
In a bid to address their financial constraints, Barcelona are planning to sell VIP boxes at their Camp Nou stadium, which could generate over £100m. However, the proposal requires La Liga’s approval.
The setback comes as Barcelona sit third in La Liga, three points behind leaders Atletico Madrid. With the January transfer window approaching, the club’s inability to register Olmo may impact their title ambitions.
