Oba Rashidi Adewolu Ladoja has been crowned the 44th Olubadan of Ibadanland in a traditional ceremony held at the Ose Meji Temple in Ibadan South East Local Government Area.

The coronation ceremony marked a significant milestone in the traditional and cultural heritage of the Yoruba people.

Ladoja’s elevation to the throne follows the passing of the 43rd Olubadan, Oba Lekan Balogun, who joined his ancestors on July 7, 2025. The new monarch received the symbolic Akoko leaf at the Labosinde Compound in Oja’ba, an essential rite in the coronation process of an Olubadan.

The coronation ceremony drew dignitaries from across Nigeria and beyond, including traditional rulers, political leaders, and cultural enthusiasts. Governor Seyi Makinde cut short his annual vacation to personally attend the coronation and will formally present Ladoja with the staff of office and official instruments of authority at a state ceremony scheduled to take place at the historic Mapo Hall.

Residents of Ibadan expressed excitement, describing the occasion as a historic moment in the city’s cultural calendar. “Ibadan stands at a crossroads of tradition and modernity. The enthronement of Oba Rasidi Adewolu Ladoja as the 44th Olubadan is more than ceremonial,” a resident noted.

Ladoja’s coronation marks a new chapter in Ibadan’s history, with expectations high that his reign will bring progress, unity, and renewed pride to the ancient city. Senator Yunus Akintunde congratulated Ladoja, saying, “There is no doubt that your enthronement will usher Ibadan into an era of unprecedented progress and transformation.”

The Christian Association of Nigeria’s Oyo State chapter also congratulated Ladoja, praying for his reign to bring greater development, peace, and prosperity to Ibadanland.
