Lagos Signs Landmark MoU To Boost Water Infrastructure.

The Lagos State Government has taken a major step towards improving access to clean water with the signing of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) on Monday with international consortium firms, Belstar and ENKA, for the rehabilitation and expansion of water supply works across the state.

The signing ceremony, held at the Alausa Secretariat, was presided over by the Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Mr Tokunbo Wahab. He stated that the collaboration is a strategic move to tackle longstanding water infrastructure challenges in the state.

According to Wahab, the project will encompass the construction, rehabilitation, and installation of water treatment facilities and distribution networks, with the goal of delivering a reliable and sustainable water supply to underserved communities in Lagos.

“This partnership marks a turning point in our efforts to ensure equitable water access for all residents,” he said. “We are committed to ensuring that all project activities are carried out in strict compliance with applicable regulations, including social and safety standards.”

He explained that the initiative is structured in two key phases: the Brownfield phase, which involves the rehabilitation of existing waterworks, and the Greenfield phase, which focuses on the construction of entirely new water facilities in selected locations across the state.

Wahab expressed confidence that the partnership with Belstar and ENKA would enhance the state’s water distribution network and contribute significantly to public health, environmental sustainability, and economic development.

The project is part of the state government’s broader commitment to infrastructure renewal and improved quality of life for Lagosians.
