In a stern response to the growing trend of residents blocking inner roads and streets for social events, the Lagos State Taskforce has strongly condemned such actions, branding them as selfish and inconsiderate.
CSP Shola Jejeloye, the Chairman of the Agency, expressed dismay at the inconvenience caused to law-abiding citizens and the disruption of vehicular movement.
Recent interventions by the Agency included the halting of a birthday celebration in Yaba, where celebrants and guests had occupied a significant portion of the road, leading to traffic congestion and inconvenience for other Lagosians.
Chairman Jejeloye identified Lagos Island, Oworonshoki, and Agege as major hotspots for such illegal activities and issued a warning of forthcoming actions to curb this behavior.
“It is highly unacceptable that one would selfishly and ignorantly cordon off an entire street to throw parties and hold social events causing gridlock in an area.
It is the height of irresponsibility. Henceforth, anyone caught carrying out such a foolish act will be arrested and charged to the mobile court for prosecution,” Jejeloye declared.
The Chairman urged Lagosians to refrain from blocking streets for celebrations and encouraged the use of private or government-owned facilities for social events.
He emphasized that if an event must take place on a street or road due to logistical reasons, proper permission must be obtained from the relevant authorities, with a copy of the approval submitted to the Agency’s Headquarters before the planned social event.
Jejeloye concluded by calling on the public to report any unauthorized closure of inner streets or roads for social gatherings to the nearest Police Station or the Lagos State Task Force for swift and necessary action.
He stressed the collective responsibility of maintaining order across the Lagos Metropolis.
