Lagos Taskforce Accused Of Fatal Incident Involving Death Of Construction Company Driver.
A tragic incident has unfolded in Lagos, where a driver with Buildwell Construction Company, Olasunkanmi Bello, was allegedly killed by operatives of the Lagos State government taskforce during an attempted vehicle seizure. Two other drivers, Joshua Elemah Sunday and Franklin Alonge, sustained injuries during the confrontation, which occurred on Tuesday morning near the Costain Roundabout.
According to eyewitnesses, the taskforce operatives arrived in a small white bus accompanied by individuals armed with sticks, believed to be hired thugs. The situation escalated as they attempted to impound one of the company’s vehicles, prompting protests from the construction workers. In the ensuing chaos, Bello was allegedly fatally struck by the operatives’ vehicle, while Sunday and Alonge were knocked down.
The incident has sparked outrage, with the construction company vowing to seek justice. “It is high time the Lagos government looked at the activities of the taskforce,” the company said. “We don’t know their jurisdiction or how they are mandated to operate.”
A video of the incident shows people shouting “ole, ole” (thief, thief) while rushing to Bello’s aid, who was struggling to breathe. Gunshots can also be heard in the video.
The director of press and public affairs for the taskforce, Gbadeyan Abdulraheem, has promised to investigate the incident. The Lagos State government is under pressure to take action and clarify the taskforce’s role and responsibilities.
