NAF To Temporarily Close Lagos Airport Road For Routine Fitness Exercise

The Nigerian Air Force (NAF) has announced that a section of the Murtala Muhammed Airport Road in Lagos will be temporarily closed on Saturday, October 18, 2025, to enable its personnel to participate in a scheduled 10-kilometre Walk and Jog Exercise.

The exercise, according to the Force, is part of efforts to promote the physical fitness and operational readiness of its officers and airmen under the Headquarters Logistics Command.

In a statement signed by the Command Public Relations Officer, Squadron Leader Abigail Ologun, the exercise will begin at 6 a.m. and end at 8 a.m. She noted that the road closure is a temporary measure to ensure safety during the fitness routine, which is expected to involve a large number of participants from the Command. Ologun emphasized that the physical training activity is a routine operation designed to keep officers in top form while fostering unity and teamwork among them.

Motorists and residents around the Murtala Muhammed Airport axis have been advised to make use of alternative routes during the two-hour exercise. The affected stretch of road will cover the area between Murtala Muhammed Airport 2 (MMA2) and the Murtala Muhammed International Airport. The Command, however, assured that normal vehicular movement would resume immediately after the completion of the exercise.

“The Command has made adequate arrangements to ensure the exercise is smooth, safe, and hitch-free,” the statement read in part. “NAF personnel, along with other security agencies, will be deployed to manage traffic and ensure public safety throughout the duration of the event.” The Air Force further assured residents and travellers that all necessary logistics have been put in place to prevent any disruption beyond the scheduled period.

While appealing to the general public for understanding and cooperation, the Command expressed regret over any inconvenience that may arise from the temporary restriction. It reiterated that the exercise is aimed at maintaining the physical alertness and wellness of its personnel, which is essential for operational efficiency and national security.

The Nigerian Air Force has, in recent times, increased the frequency of such fitness routines across its formations nationwide. The initiative, according to the leadership, is part of a broader campaign to ensure that officers remain physically and mentally prepared to respond effectively to security challenges across the country.
