In response to recent retirements within the Nigeria Customs Service (NCS), Comptroller General of Customs (CGC), Bashir Adewale Adeniyi, has initiated significant changes aimed at strengthening the service’s leadership and optimising its operations.  This was made known  by Abdullahi Maiwada, Chief Superintendent of Customs and National Public Relations Officer for the Comptroller General of Customs, on February 23, 2024.

The CGC has appointed two management members to act in key capacities and redeployed four others to bolster strategic initiatives and enhance service delivery across various departments.

The newly appointed leaders are expected to bring fresh perspectives and expertise to critical areas such as revenue generation, anti-smuggling efforts, and trade facilitation, driving the NCS towards greater efficiency and effectiveness.

Here is a breakdown of the appointments and redeployments:

– JP Ajoku has been appointed as Acting Deputy Comptroller General (DCG) for Strategic Research and Policy.
– BM Jibo assumes the role of Acting DCG for Excise, Free Trade Zone & Industrial Incentives.
– IQ Ogbudu is appointed as Assistant Comptroller General (ACG) for Excise, Free Trade Zone & Industrial Incentives.
– IO Babalola and HJ Swomen are redeployed as ACGs/Zonal Coordinators for Zone ‘B’ and Zone ‘A’ respectively.
– A Abdulazeez takes on the role of Acting ACG/Zonal Coordinator for Zone ‘D’.

In a statement, the CGC congratulated the appointees and urged them to embrace their new responsibilities with dedication and commitment. He emphasised the NCS’s crucial role in advancing national interests and called for upholding the highest standards of integrity, professionalism, and service delivery.

The Nigeria Customs Service reaffirms its commitment to safeguarding the nation’s economic interests, promoting international trade, and ensuring compliance with regulatory frameworks. With these strategic leadership reinforcements, the service is poised to address emerging challenges and capitalise on growth opportunities.

Stay tuned for further updates.
