Nigerian Pilgrims To Begin Return From Saudi Arabia On June 9, Announces NAHCON.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria (NAHCON) has confirmed that Nigerian pilgrims who participated in the 2025 Hajj will commence their return journey from Saudi Arabia on Monday, 9 June 2025. The announcement was made by NAHCON Chairman and CEO, Professor Abdullahi Saleh, in a statement issued in Mina on Friday, 6 June 2025, coinciding with Eid al-Adha celebrations.

In his address, Professor Saleh expressed heartfelt gratitude to Allah for the opportunity to witness another Eid al-Adha, a significant celebration of sacrifice in the Muslim faith. “On behalf of NAHCON, I heartily congratulate all Muslims on the occasion. We especially congratulate the fortunate pilgrims who witnessed the Day of Arafat. May Allah accept your prayers and sacrifices, and those of Muslims worldwide,” he said.

The return flights, scheduled to begin on the 13th of Dhul-Hijjah (corresponding to 9 June), will see the first batch of pilgrims from Imo State transported by Air Peace, Bauchi State by Max Air, and Kebbi and Sokoto States by Flynas. Professor Saleh urged the initial group of returning pilgrims to prepare diligently for their journey and to pray for a smooth and safe return for all.

Reflecting on the success of the 2025 Hajj, the NAHCON chairman praised the cooperation and orderly conduct of Nigerian pilgrims, noting their patience and discipline as remarkable. “Their behaviour has made NAHCON’s job easier,” he remarked. He also extended appreciation to the State Muslim Pilgrims Welfare Boards for their excellent organisation and support, which significantly contributed to the smooth running of the operations.

Professor Saleh acknowledged the dedication of NAHCON staff, many of whom served pilgrims even while in the state of ihram, stating, “Your sacrifice is noted, and your reward is with Allah.” He further commended NAHCON board members and ad-hoc staff for their tireless commitment to serving the guests of Allah.

The chairman highlighted the crucial support from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima, describing their contributions as instrumental to the seamless execution of this year’s Hajj. “We assure the public that NAHCON is committed to doing even better with the right cooperation and continued support from all stakeholders,” he added.

As Nigerian pilgrims prepare to return, Professor Saleh called on the Muslim faithful to reflect on the essence of the Hajj period, drawing lessons from the trust and sacrifice of Sayyidatuna Hajara and Prophet Ibrahim. The return journey marks the conclusion of a spiritually enriching experience, with NAHCON pledging to ensure a safe and smooth process for all pilgrims.
