Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, has issued three Executive Orders in the state which include the creation of two new agencies and a ban on traditional rulers from engaging in mining agreements.
The newly established agencies are the Ogun State Mineral Resources Development Agency and the Ogun State Landscaping and Recreation Agency. These initiatives are part of the governor’s broader strategy to responsibly manage the state’s rich mineral resources and to promote sustainable development.
According to a statement from Abiodun’s Special Adviser on Media and Strategy, Kayode Akinmade, these executive orders are effective immediately.
Governor Abiodun stated the importance of responsible exploration of mineral resources to prevent environmental degradation. The Ogun State Mineral Resources Development Agency will conduct geotechnical surveys, maintain sector data, and foster local capacity in the mining industry.
The Ogun State Landscaping and Recreation Agency aims to support the state’s transformation agenda, focusing on tree planting, landscaping, and the creation of recreational spaces. This initiative seeks to combat climate change and promote a healthier environment.
Governor Abiodun’s third executive order bars traditional rulers from entering into land or mining agreements. This measure he says is designed to curb illegal mining and ensure all such activities are properly regulated by the state government.
The governor warned that any traditional institution violating this order would face sanctions under the Obas and Chiefs Law and other relevant criminal statutes.
