In a bid to mitigate the economic challenges faced by residents of Ogun State, Governor Dapo Abiodun has announced the commencement of a rice sale programme at half price across the state.
Speaking at a special Iftar event organised for the League of Imams and Alfas in Abeokuta, Governor Abiodun emphasised the importance of easing the financial burden on the populace.
The governor disclosed that the initiative would kick off with public servants, who would have the opportunity to purchase rice at 50% of its actual price.
This move, according to Abiodun, aims to restore the purchasing power of public servants, which has been eroded by inflation.
To ensure transparency and sustainability, a committee has been established to oversee the sale of rice to residents of the state. Governor Abiodun highlighted that selling the commodity at a discounted rate would enable the administration to continually replenish its stock and meet demand.
Furthermore, the governor affirmed the commitment of his administration to support the less privileged members of society by providing free rice to those who cannot afford to purchase it.
During the gathering, Governor Abiodun urged Muslim faithful to maintain their devotion beyond the Ramadan period and to pray for the progress and prosperity of the state and the nation as a whole.
Additionally, Governor Abiodun pledged to construct a modern secretariat for the League of Imams and Alfas, promising that it would set a benchmark for similar facilities in other states.
Imam Tajudeen Adewunmi, the Secretary of the League of Imams and Alfas, lauded Governor Abiodun for his efforts in empowering Muslim youths and commended his compassionate leadership.
Special prayers were offered for the upcoming 72nd birthday celebration of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, with Governor Abiodun being honored as an Ambassador of Peace in Islam during the event.
