EFCC Questions Delta State Acting Accountant General And Deputy over Alleged N1.3 Trillion Misappropriation.
Operatives of the Economic and Financial Crimes Commission (EFCC) have reportedly questioned the acting Accountant General of Delta State, Vincent Okubor, along with his deputy, in connection with the alleged misappropriation of N1.3 trillion during the administration of former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa.
This latest development is part of a broader investigation by the anti-graft agency, which had earlier arrested former Governor Ifeanyi Okowa—who was the vice-presidential candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) in the 2023 general elections—as well as the immediate past Accountant General, Mrs Joy Enwa, and several other top government officials.
According to reports, the EFCC’s Port Harcourt office extended formal invitations to Okubor and his deputy in March, requesting that they provide clarification on the funds currently under scrutiny. A senior government source, who spoke on condition of anonymity, revealed that the invitation was part of efforts to conclude the EFCC’s investigation into the alleged large-scale embezzlement.
“The EFCC invited them to give their statements and clarify their level of involvement, or otherwise, in the use of the N1.3 trillion,” the source stated.
When contacted for comment, EFCC spokesperson Dele Oyewale neither confirmed nor denied the interrogation, stating, “Let me find out about it. I will get back to you.” As of the time of filing this report, no further response had been received from the Commission.
The ongoing probe underscores the EFCC’s continued efforts to track public funds and ensure accountability in the management of state resources.
