Okupe Praises Tinubu’s Policy Document As Superior To Rivals’

Okupe Praises Tinubu’s Policy Document As Superior To Rivals’.

Doyin Okupe, former Director-General of the Labour Party’s presidential campaign, has commended President Bola Tinubu’s policy framework, describing it as the most credible among the 2023 presidential candidates. Speaking on Tuesday during a review of Tinubu’s administration, Okupe highlighted the president’s methodical approach to implementing his “Renewed Hope Agenda.”

According to Okupe, Tinubu’s policy document offered a pragmatic and well-defined roadmap compared to the plans presented by his opponents, Peter Obi of the Labour Party and Atiku Abubakar of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP). He praised Tinubu for his focus on stabilising the economy, particularly through efforts to settle crippling debts and address key economic challenges.

“Tinubu has a better policy document than any of his two rivals during the 2023 presidential election,” Okupe remarked.

Criticising the opposition, Okupe stated that Atiku’s economic proposals were overly dependent on securing theoretical loans, which he deemed unrealistic given Nigeria’s financial constraints at the time. He also noted that Peter Obi’s “consumption-to-production” mantra, while inspiring, lacked the necessary policy development and practical applications to make it viable.

“All we were saying was that we wanted to take Nigeria from consumption to production; good rhetoric, but it was not grounded either in policy development or principle application,” Okupe explained.

Okupe further praised Tinubu’s economic reforms, particularly in addressing foreign exchange issues and implementing tax reforms. These measures, he said, were in line with the president’s campaign promises and reflected a systematic approach to solving Nigeria’s pressing challenges.

Reflecting on his earlier opposition to Tinubu, Okupe concluded by acknowledging the president’s vision. “Though I never supported Tinubu ahead of the election and we were not in the same party, in retrospect, his reform agenda is the most credible. It has the potential to elevate the country to new heights,” he stated.

Okupe’s remarks underline the importance of comprehensive policy frameworks in addressing national challenges and the role of leadership in turning campaign promises into tangible outcomes.
