Osinbajo Condemns Fraudulent AI-Generated Videos Promoting Fake Products And Schemes.

The office of Nigeria’s former Vice President, Professor Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, has issued a strong warning to the public regarding a series of fraudulent AI-generated videos circulating online. These videos falsely depict Osinbajo endorsing fake hypertension medications and a dubious money-making investment scheme, exploiting his image and voice to deceive unsuspecting Nigerians.

In a statement released on Thursday, 12 June 2025, by his media aide, Mohammed Braimah, the former Vice President’s office described the videos as “fraudulent” and “completely unauthorised.” The statement clarified that Osinbajo has no affiliation with the products or schemes being promoted, urging the public to exercise caution and verify the authenticity of any promotional content featuring public figures. “It has come to our attention that the image of His Excellency, Prof. Yemi Osinbajo, SAN, GCON, is being used in AI-generated videos to fraudulently promote products and services that are not endorsed, supported by, or affiliated with him in any form whatsoever,” the statement read.

The videos, which have been widely shared across social media platforms, including X, feature an AI-generated voice mimicking Osinbajo’s tone and cadence to promote a fictitious money-doubling scheme and unverified hypertension drugs. One post on X highlighted the issue, describing the content as “deep fake AI manipulated video” and calling for public awareness. The former Vice President’s team has urged Nigerians to report such content to social media platforms and regulatory authorities to curb the spread of misinformation.

This incident is part of a broader wave of AI-driven scams targeting prominent figures. Earlier this year, Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God, similarly disowned AI-generated videos falsely portraying him endorsing drugs and scholarships. Experts warn that the proliferation of generative AI tools has made it easier for scammers to create convincing deepfake content, posing significant risks to public trust and safety.

Osinbajo’s office has called for swift action from social media platforms and relevant authorities to address the malicious content. “Public vigilance is crucial in the fight against fraud and digital impersonation,” Braimah noted, encouraging Nigerians to remain cautious and avoid engaging with suspicious promotional materials.

The former Vice President, who served from 2015 to 2023, has previously faced attempts to misuse his name, including a 2021 incident where he disowned a website and WhatsApp group falsely soliciting support for a presidential bid. This latest development underscores the growing challenge of AI-generated fraud, with experts advocating for stronger regulations, such as labelling AI content, to combat deepfakes.

Nigerians are advised to verify the authenticity of any promotional content and report suspicious videos to platforms or authorities. For further information, contact the Office of the Former Vice President or relevant regulatory bodies. The fight against digital fraud continues, with Osinbajo’s team urging collective action to protect the public from such deceptive schemes.
