Osun State Governor Relaxes Curfew In Ifon And Ilobu Amid Peace Efforts.

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has eased the curfew imposed on Ifon and Ilobu communities following months of tension over a boundary dispute. The adjustment comes as the state government reports significant progress in restoring peace to the affected areas.

The curfew, initially enforced from 7 pm to 7 am on 16 January 2025, was aimed at curbing violent clashes between the two communities. However, in light of improved security conditions, the government has revised the restriction period to 10 pm to 4 am, with immediate effect.

The development was confirmed in a statement issued on Sunday by the Commissioner for Information and Public Enlightenment, Mr Kolapo Alimi. Governor Adeleke commended security agencies and local stakeholders for their dedication to restoring stability. He also reaffirmed his administration’s commitment to ensuring lasting peace in the region.

Despite the relaxed curfew, the governor has directed security personnel from the Nigerian Army, Police, and Civil Defence Corps to maintain 24-hour surveillance in both towns. This measure aims to prevent further hostilities and safeguard residents.

“All stakeholders in the communities are further advised to cooperate with the state government to resolve the issues amicably,” the statement read.

Governor Adeleke urged traditional rulers, community leaders, and residents to use the ongoing holy month of Ramadan as an opportunity to pray for peace and unity. He also issued a stern warning against any attempts to disrupt the peace process, stating that individuals inciting violence or causing unrest would face the full force of the law.

The boundary dispute between Ifon and Ilobu has been a long-standing issue, with intermittent clashes over land ownership. The state government continues to mediate between the communities, working towards a permanent resolution.
