Paul Pogba Joins AS Monaco On Two-Year Deal In Sensational Ligue 1 Return.

AS Monaco have officially announced the signing of French superstar Paul Pogba on a two-year contract, securing his services until 30 June 2027. The 32-year-old midfielder, who became a free agent on 30 November 2024 following the termination of his contract with Juventus, marks his return to top-flight football with this high-profile transfer to the Ligue 1 giants.

Pogba, a 2018 World Cup winner with France, brings a wealth of experience and flair to the Principality club. The midfielder’s illustrious career began at Manchester United, where he made his senior debut in 2011 before moving to Juventus in 2012. During his first spell with the Italian side, Pogba flourished, clinching four consecutive Serie A titles (2013–2016), two Coppa Italia trophies, and two Supercoppa Italiana titles. His performances earned him global recognition, including the Golden Boy award in 2013 and a spot in the 2015 UEFA Team of the Year after helping Juventus reach the Champions League final.

A record-breaking £89.3 million return to Manchester United in 2016 saw Pogba spend six seasons at Old Trafford, where he made 233 appearances, winning the Europa League and League Cup. Internationally, Pogba has been a cornerstone for France, earning 91 caps and scoring 11 goals, including a memorable strike in the 2018 World Cup final, where Les Bleus triumphed 4-2 over Croatia. His contributions also helped France secure the 2021 UEFA Nations League title.

Pogba’s journey has not been without challenges. After rejoining Juventus in 2022, his second stint was marred by injuries and a doping controversy. In September 2023, he tested positive for dehydroepiandrosterone (DHEA), leading to a provisional suspension. Initially facing a four-year ban, the Court of Arbitration for Sport reduced the sanction to 18 months, allowing him to return to competitive football in March 2025. Juventus mutually terminated his contract in November 2024, paving the way for this fresh chapter with Monaco.

AS Monaco, who finished third in Ligue 1 last season behind Paris Saint-Germain and Marseille, will benefit from Pogba’s experience as they compete in the UEFA Champions League next term. The club’s official statement expressed their delight: “We are thrilled to announce the arrival of Paul Pogba. The midfielder has signed a two-season deal and is now tied to the Club until 30th June 2027.” The announcement, accompanied by a vibrant social media post, has sparked excitement among fans eager to see the mercurial midfielder don the number 8 jersey.

Despite his time away from the pitch, Pogba has remained dedicated to maintaining his fitness, training solo and recently spotted working alongside Manchester United youngsters Leny Yoro and Kobbie Mainoo in Florida. His determination to reclaim his place among football’s elite is evident, with the midfielder expressing ambitions to represent France at the 2026 World Cup.

The move to Monaco represents a homecoming of sorts for Pogba, who was born in Lagny-sur-Marne and began his youth career at Le Havre. Turning down reported interest from clubs in Saudi Arabia and Turkey, Pogba’s decision to join Monaco reflects his desire to compete at the highest level in Europe. According to reports, the midfielder made “significant financial sacrifices” to secure the move, underscoring his commitment to reviving his career in Ligue 1.

Monaco’s swift negotiations, led by the club’s management, capitalised on interest from other suitors, including Saudi club Al-Ittihad, whose talks were hampered by internal issues. The deal, finalised after Pogba completed his medical, is seen as a major coup for Monaco and a boost for Ligue 1’s growing reputation.

As Pogba prepares to make his Ligue 1 debut, the footballing world will be watching closely. Can the dynamic midfielder recapture the form that made him one of the game’s most electrifying talents? With Monaco’s Champions League campaign on the horizon, Pogba’s experience and creativity could prove pivotal. For now, fans can celebrate the return of ‘Pogboom’ to French football, ready to dazzle once more.
