Nigerian rapper Phyno has expressed his thoughts on the impact of marriage on a music career.
In a recent interview, the 38-year-old artist argued that marriage can affect a musician’s success.
“Statistically, I feel marriage can hinder a music career,” Phyno said. “Music is a jealous career that requires utmost dedication.” He cited the example of many successful artists who had to delay or abandon their education to focus on music.
“Dropout rates are high because music demands full attention,” he explained. “Even those who juggle both face immense challenges.” Phyno attributed the challenge to music’s emotional and experiential nature.
“Music reflects life experiences,” he said. “Unless you use songwriters, you can’t sing about happiness when facing relationship stress.” Phyno, who welcomed his first child in August 2023, emphasized the importance of focusing on one’s craft.
