President Tinubu Replaces NYSC Director-General In Strategic Leadership Shake-Up.

President Bola Tinubu has made a significant change in the leadership of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), removing Brigadier General Yusha’u Dogara Ahmed as Director-General and appointing Brigadier General Nafiu Olakunle as his replacement. The announcement, reflects the administration’s ongoing efforts to strengthen key institutions and promote national unity through effective leadership.

Brigadier General Ahmed, appointed in January 2023 by former President Muhammadu Buhari, has been succeeded by Brigadier General Olakunle, a seasoned artillery officer from Ileogbo in Aiyedire Local Government Area of Osun State. The new Director-General brings a wealth of experience to the role, having served in various capacities within the Nigerian military. His appointment has sparked widespread approval, particularly in Osun State, where residents have hailed the decision as recognition of Olakunle’s dedication and service.

The NYSC, established in 1973, plays a pivotal role in fostering national unity, youth empowerment, and capacity-building by deploying graduates across Nigeria for a mandatory one-year service. Olakunle’s leadership is expected to drive significant reforms within the organisation, enhancing its impact on inter-ethnic relationships and national development. “This is a proud moment for Osun and Nigeria,” said a community leader in Ileogbo, expressing optimism about Olakunle’s ability to steer the NYSC towards greater achievements.

President Tinubu’s decision comes amid a series of strategic appointments aimed at revitalising federal agencies. The move aligns with his administration’s commitment to ensuring competent leadership in critical sectors, as evidenced by recent appointments across various institutions. The President has tasked Olakunle with building on the NYSC’s legacy, promoting inclusivity, and empowering Nigerian youth to contribute meaningfully to the nation’s growth.

The change in leadership has been met with positive reactions, with many Nigerians anticipating that Olakunle’s tenure will bring fresh perspectives to the NYSC. As the organisation continues to shape the next generation of leaders, this appointment signals a renewed focus on excellence and national cohesion.
