Re: Aregbesola’s Empty Boast That ADC Will “Wrest” Aso Rock And Lagos Govt House In 2027

The Lagos State chapter of the All Progressives Congress (APC) has responded with a mix of ridicule and sympathy to the bold claim by Ogbeni Rauf Aregbesola that the African Democratic Congress (ADC) will take control of Aso Rock and the Lagos State Government House in 2027.

The party described the statement as an empty boast, disconnected from political reality.

Once a leading figure in the progressive fold, Aregbesola has now become, in APC’s words, a mere tenant in a fringe opposition party. His journey from Lagos Commissioner to Osun Governor and Minister was entirely built within the APC structure. Today, his attempts to remain politically relevant involve attacking the very foundation that gave him national prominence a move the APC considers both desperate and self-defeating.

The party argued that every time Aregbesola criticizes the APC, he is not damaging the party but rather dismantling his own political legacy. By turning his back on the party that shaped his career, Aregbesola is likened to a man erasing the pages of his autobiography, making his past achievements seem hollow.

According to the APC, the ADC’s decision to position Aregbesola as a potential front-runner for 2027 is a political miscalculation. If the ADC is relying on him to lead them to victory, then they are preparing for failure rather than success. For APC, placing Aregbesola at the helm of an anti-APC campaign is a clear recipe for collapse.

The statement emphasized that political power in Lagos and Nigeria is earned through delivery and performance, not wishful thinking or soundbites. While the APC points to its track record in road infrastructure, education, healthcare, and reforms, it dismissed the ADC as a noisy but hollow platform, lacking any serious structure or public credibility.

Referring to the ADC’s poor showing in recent by-elections, the APC warned that such a record offers no reason for hope. Before dreaming of power, the ADC needs to first understand humility and build credibility. In contrast, APC said it continues to enjoy the trust of Nigerians through visible governance outcomes.

Looking ahead to 2027, the APC predicted that Nigerians will continue to choose performance and stability over confusion and contradiction. The party expressed confidence that voters will reward the APC for its consistency, while rejecting what it called Aregbesola’s comedy of betrayal.

The party described Aregbesola’s recent outburst not as a threat, but as a public admission of his declining relevance. His decision to attack the APC is, according to the statement, a political obituary rather than a rallying cry. The progressive movement, the APC insisted, cannot be undone by one man’s attempt to rewrite history.

In conclusion, Lagos APC stated that if the ADC is truly banking on Aregbesola to drive their future, they should prepare for embarrassment in 2027. “The only takeover coming will be one by ridicule,” the statement concluded, reaffirming APC’s position as the dominant political force. The release was signed by the party’s spokesperson, Hon. Seye Oladejo, on 14 September 2025.
