Manchester City and Spain midfielder Rodri has been awarded the prestigious Men’s Ballon d’Or, marking the first time a City player has claimed the prize. The 28-year-old triumphed following a remarkable season, during which he lost only one game across club and country and played a pivotal role in Spain’s Euro 2024 victory.
In addition to his national success, Rodri enjoyed an outstanding season with Manchester City, where he helped secure the Premier League, UEFA Super Cup, and Club World Cup titles. England captain Harry Kane, now at Bayern Munich, shared the Gerd Muller Trophy with Kylian Mbappe after both scored an impressive 52 goals in all competitions last season. Kane, who finished 10th in the Ballon d’Or rankings, accepted the award alone, with Mbappe absent.
Real Madrid took the honours as Club of the Year, while their manager Carlo Ancelotti won the Johan Cruyff Trophy for Best Coach. However, in an unusual turn of events, no representatives from Real Madrid attended, reportedly due to reports that Vinicius Jr. would not secure the Ballon d’Or win.
